Twenty Ought Seven
Seven was a really fun year, probably the best one of my entire life (except 1986, ahh to be 3 again), and so I thought I'd round up my favorite things.
Favorite Event
Birth of my son! Probably what 2007 will be remembered for in my life book and I'm still thankful for it. He's a really fun kid and cool at that, gotta give him credit for saying dada even though he has no idea what it means. Also fun is that we're expecting another one that was conceived in '07.
Favorite in Tech
No surprise here, the iPhone rocks my world. To be honest, its probably the worst mobile phone I've owned in recent years being incredibly slippery and sometimes buggy when trying to interact with the interface in the middle of a call, but its MobileSafari that has really changed my life. I didn't think anyone would ever make the web so accessible without a full screen, but its near perfection.
Favorite on the Web
Twitter. By far my favorite web technology of 2007. I'll have to write sometime about why I think its so great... but I don't need to here. Its just great.
I've discovered two blogs this year that really excite me. They're oldies to everyone but me, but that's fine. First up, Chris Glass' Journal. Chris is an amazing artist, photographer and writer and I can't get enough of his site. What's extra fantastic is that he's a regular poster, getting to see fresh content as often as he shoves it out would normally be annoying, but his style of short posts and a photo with every entry make it something I look forward to. His photography hits me, not sure why, and frankly I don't want to figure it out, I just want to enjoy it. I find the world through his lens really interesting. Chris is the photographer I want to be.
Second up is Kevin Cornell's blog. Being around the web community for as many years as I have, I've crossed by it many times before, but for some reason never thought to read the content. I started doing that this year ... and wow ... I wasn't prepared for what a good writer he is. I figured his illustration work would have been his talent and his blogs would have been subjected around something nerdy like wicked worn bezier curves. But wrong I was. Instead I found undeniably incredible writing, sparkling subjects and great illustrations accompanying it all. And if that wasn't enough, he interacts with his readers. Kevin is the blogger I want to be.
Favorite Software
Okay so I'm a junky, and this could be a post of its own, but things I've really been enjoying lately are Leopard, WriteRoom, TextExpander, Hazel, Connect360, Anxiety, CoverSutra & Flow.
Favorite Purchase
On the watch front, of course, besides a really special IWC piece that I'll write about later, I finally settled a Panerai this year and I fall in love with it again every day. Along with it is a custom made black calf strap/undercase combo that took 4 months to make/ship. The OP is a 1950 Luminor, big and beautiful.
Worst Product
The Ped Egg. Seriously... wtf. Advertised as the world's revolutionary foot file, its basically a cheese grater for your callus feet. And if that wasn't enough, it collects all the "filings" in a nice compact container that's attached. During the commercial they always manage to advertise this part by showing off this container with about 2 inches worth of shavings inside and every time I want to vomit.
Best eBay Auction
I scored a beautiful '96 sunburst strat this year that slowly became my #1. While not technically, anything older than 10 years equals vintage in my book.
Best Album/Movie
Seriously? Do you really think I'd nail a year's worth of incredible film and music down to 1 choice? No.
Most Embarrassing Moment?
Missed Dad's birthday by 2 days. Ouch. His most embarrassing lifetime moment? Probably conceiving a child who can't remember his birthday.
Best Thing Ever Of All Times, Ever
I'm with Cabel on this one. The internet.
